BEIJING, April 6 (Xinhuanet) -- More than 200 representatives of overseas Chinese gathered at a culture festival in Wenchang City, south China's Hainan Province lately.

Wenchang is one of the famous hometowns for overseas Chinese, with over 1.2 million originating from the city.

And over 90 percent of them now reside in countries along the Belt and Road, said Lin Mingjiang, former vice chairman of the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese.

This offers Wenchang abundant opportunities to benefit from the Belt and Road Initiative, he said.

Those attending the festival expressed their willingness to seize the new opportunities to continue contributing to their homeland.

They said as golden opportunities lie ahead, they are determined to join in the development efforts of Wenchang.

The culture festival serves as a platform for the overseas Chinese to reunite and tell the Wenchang story abroad, they added.

This year’s culture festival, the 6th of its kind, ran from April 1 to 2.
