KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, June 4 (Xinhua) -- An insider attack claimed the lives of six police and wounded five others in the southern Kandahar province on Sunday, an official said.

"The gruesome incident happened in Hajji Arab area of 15 Police District in Kandahar city today morning when the policemen asleep in their checkpoint," the official told Xinhua, but he declined to be named.

He said authorized officials would talk to media after an investigation.

Insider attacks in the past had also claimed the lives of security personnel in the Taliban birthplace Kandahar and in other parts of the war-battered country.
