BANGKOK, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn on Thursday signed Thailand's 20th constitution at a royal ceremony.

The ceremony, held at the Ananda Samakhom Throne Hall, was broadcast live on national television at 3 p.m.. The last time this royal ceremony was held at the hall was in 1968.

The new charter was overwhelmingly passed in a referendum on August 17, 2016. The government submitted it to the king for approval last November.

The king returned it to the government for changes relating to powers of the king and the regent. A special 11-man committee was set up to amend it. The amended version was then returned for royal endorsement.
