CHANGSHA, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Rain-triggered floods have killed 27 people with 8 missing in central China's Hunan Province, local authorities said Tuesday.
Heavy rain started on June 22. The ensuing floods have forced the evacuation of more than 1.2 million people.
More than 38,000 homes collapsed and nearly 880,000 hectares of crops were damaged.
The water levels in Dongting Lake and several major rivers all rose above warning levels.
About 15,000 people have been sent to the front line and over 160 million yuan (23.5 million U.S. dollars) has been allocated to aid disaster relief in Hunan.
Rain is expected to weaken in the region in the next few days, but heavy rain is expected in some areas, according to weather report.
