LUSAKA, June 11 (Xinhua) -- The head of Zambia's soccer governing body on Monday congratulated the women national soccer team for their qualification of 2018 Africa Cup of Nations.
Andrew Kamanga, the president of the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), said the soccer governing body will give the team the necessary support before the finals to be hosted in November this year.
He further said in a statement that the qualification was a sign of the progress made in the local soccer league in the country.
The women team qualified for the Ghana 2018 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Zimbabwe 2-1 to cancel out the 1-0 defeat on away goals rule.
The soccer chief also congratulated the women national team for emerging runners-up finish at a regional soccer team held in South Africa.
The team lost 4-2 to Zimbabwe in the final of the Council for Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) on Saturday.
