TRIPOLI, July 16 (Xinhua) -- The Libyan eastern-based House of Representatives (parliament) on Monday set July 30 as the date for voting on the constitution's referendum law.
"The House of Representatives held a session today with the Speaker Agila Saleh and more than 70 deputies, and continued discussing the constitution's referendum law in all its aspects," said the parliament's spokesman Abdullah Bhelig.
The deputies agreed that July 30 will be the date for voting on the referendum law, he added.
In July 2017, the Libyan constitution drafting assembly voted for a draft constitution and presented it to the parliament.
However, the parliament refused to issue a referendum law pending a court ruling regarding the validity of the drafting procedures.
A month later, the appeal court ruled that the draft constitution should be suspended, as the assembly held the voting session on a holiday.
However, the Supreme Court ruled that the administrative judiciary is not competent to hear cases against the constitution assembly.
Libya has been struggling to make a democratic transition ever since the fall of the former leader Gaddafi's regime in 2011. The country is plagued with insecurity and political division.
