TIRANA, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Albanian authorities on Monday announced the confiscation of the assets of former Albanian Prosecutor General Adriatik Llalla, who was accused of hiding his assets.

The Court of Serious Crimes seized Llalla's assets worth around some 900,000 U.S. dollars, including an apartment in seaside city of Durres and over 22,000 square meters of land in the capital city of Tirana.

Albanian Prosecutor's Office of the First Instance Court for Serious Crimes, based on preliminary investigations, is suspicious that some immovable properties owned by Llalla constitute the product of the criminal offense, according to a statement from the Prosecutor's office.

"In this case, the court ordered the imposition of the 'preventive sequestration' property security measure for property worth 900,000 U.S. dollars in market value," it said.

On Feb. 10 of 2018, Llalla handed over to the Albanian President Ilir Meta his resignation, resigning in this way from the magistrates' functions.

On June 11 of 2018, the Special Appeals Commission upheld the decision of the Independent Qualification Commission to terminate the vetting for the former Prosecutor General, but also specified in the decision the exemption of the former Prosecutor General from the right to be a part of justice system organs.
