PRAGUE, July 24 (Xinhua) -- The Czech government approved to provide a donation of 25 million crowns (about 1.13 million U.S. dollars) to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) for fighting illegal migration, said Prime Minister Andrej Babis at a press conference on Tuesday after a government meeting.

Czech Interior Ministry will provide the money through its "on-site assistance" program.

The ministry said that the money will be used by BiH's Security Ministry to buy the necessary border protection equipment such as thermal imaging cameras, telescopes, drones, torches, heartbeat detectors, and so on.

Interior Minister Jan Hamacek said it is clear that there is a new migration route to the EU leads through BiH. One of the long-term priority of Czech Interior Ministry is to keep the Western Balkan route closed. That is why the ministry decided to provide the donation.

According to information from the International Organization for Migration, more than 7,000 migrants arrived in BiH from the beginning of the year to June 21, with around 2,500 of them remaining in the country. (1 U.S. dollar = 22.06 crowns)
