LJUBLJANA, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Two separate attempts in four days to smuggle illegal immigrants by vans have been stopped by Slovenian police, according to the Slovenian Press Agency on Tuesday.

A van with 31 illegal migrants onboard was stopped by Slovenian police after it crossed its southern border with Croatia near Crnomelj on Monday evening.

The attempted smuggling of what are citizens of Pakistan, Afghanistan and India was conducted by two men from Croatia and Serbia, according to the police.

On Friday last week, a pair of smugglers were apprehended by Slovenian police in the border area of Krsko with Croatia after it turned out that one of them transported 34 migrants in a van in inhumane conditions.

The Bela Krajina region in the southeast has been a key point of entry into Slovenia on the Balkan migration route, while the coastal area around Koper and near Italy has also seen a lot of migrant smuggling.
