PARIS, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday offered condolences to Indonesian people after a strong earthquake jolted Lombok Island in central Indonesia on Sunday.

"My deepest sympathies to the families of the victims of the earthquake in Indonesia," Macron wrote on his Tweeter account.

"For the French present in the area, our consular services are fully mobilized," he said.

On Sunday, a 7.0 magnitude quake struck the north of Indonesia's resort island of Lombok, killing at least 91 people and triggered a tsunami warning before being lifted.

There were no French visitors among the dead, according to the Foreign Ministry.

"Our embassy in Jakarta is mobilized and continues to check with (local) authorities. No case of French (people) in major difficulty has been reported at this stage," the Quai d'Orsay said in a statement released on Sunday.

The ministry recommended French nationals to "strictly respect" precautionary instructions.

Indonesia sees frequent quakes as it sits on a vulnerable quake-prone zone of "the Pacific Ring of Fire."

In 2004, a 9.2 earthquake in the Indian Ocean off the west coast of northern Sumatra triggered a tsunami that killed 226,000 people in 13 countries, including more than 120,000 in Indonesia.
