PARIS, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- French President Emmanuel Macron expressed solidarity with Italy and pledged to provide it with "all the necessary support" after a motorway bridge partially collapsed in the northwest city of Genoa and killed scores of people.

"Our thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones and all the Italian people," Macron said.

"France stands with Italy in this tragedy and ready to provide all the necessary support," he wrote on his tweeter account.

Earlier on Tuesday, about 100-metre section of Morandi Bridge collapsed amid torrential rains. At least 20 people were killed in what Italian authorities called "an immense tragedy."
