BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- Clothing and accessories topped online shopping list of Brunei consumers, at 73 percent, followed by travel and tourist services (50 percent), cosmetics and healthcare (32 percent) and consumer electronics (31 percent).

These were revealed recently by the first e-commerce survey for Brunei consumers, which was conducted by the country's telecom and e-commerce regulator authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI), with the aim of collecting information on individual e-commerce adoption, while also identifying the factors that influence local consumer habits towards e-commerce.

According to the survey, about 47 percent of the respondents used eBay, while Malaysia's Zalora came in second at 36 percent, and Amazon third at 18 percent. Lazada of Malaysia and China's Ali Express were both voted at fourth, at 11 percent.

For the reason of online shopping, 70 percent of the respondents made their purchases online because it was time-saving; 67 percent found better bargains; and 65 percent felt that there was more variety online.

According to AITI, online shopping activities are becoming more popular in Brunei. Access to online content, safe and secure payment platforms, convenience and timely delivery are among the essential factors that determine consumers' decisions to shop online.

Issues such as delivery, after-sales services, online safety and privacy are still some of the concerns that need to be addressed.
