Drug-addled driver races bus with 40 on board to elude police

BANGKOK, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- A driver drove a minibus carrying 40 passengers at high speed to elude police in downtown Bangkok was found high on meth, media reported on Wednesday.

The passengers in the minibus found themselves erratically swerving from side to side on the road and hurtling furiously on Tuesday night when a police car tried to block it.

The race ended as police finally managed to stop the bus. The driver jumped out, trying to escape the police but was caught.

The driver, 38, admitted to taking a methamphetamine pill before leaving the bus. Police tried to stop him as they saw the bus speeding dangerously. The police car chased the bus for about 500 meters before it was hemmed in.

The driver has been charged of allegedly driving under the influence of drug.
