LONDON, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Arsenal winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan says that his side are improving and should keep faith in new coach Unai Emery despite kicking off the new Premier League campaign with two defeats.

Emery replaced Arsene Wenger over the summer and a 2-0 defeat at home to Manchester City followed by a 3-2 defeat away to Chelsea mean the Spaniard is the first Arsenal boss since 1986 to begin his career at the club with consecutive setbacks.

The losses have seen calls for Emery to alter his style of playing the ball from the back to adapt to the English game, but Mkhitaryan believes that despite the disappointments there have been improvements.

"Everyone has their own opinion. We know very well what we are playing for and how we have to play," said the forward on Sky Sports.

"We're not happy with the result but we know where we're going, what we're doing, what the coach is demanding from us and we're trying to do that," he said.

Mkhitaryan also pointed out Arsenal had faced two of their toughest rivals this season, with matches against the reigning champions and a trip to Stamford Bridge.

"We did our best, in one case we can say we were unlucky a bit, but that is football, it can happen. The most important thing is to stay positive, believe in ourselves and to keep working the same way and the result will come."

"We are creating chances," he continued, "but I think it's just the first few games."

Mkhitaryan also said he didn't believe there was much difference between what Emery is looking for and the style used by Wenger over his 22 years in charge.

"It's not too different... Emery kept the philosophy of Wenger but is building something new on it. He knows he can give something different to this club, like the balance between attack and defense. It's not easy but I think he's doing it in the right way," he concluded.

Arsenal's next game is on Saturday at home to West Ham United, who have also lost their opening two games to the campaign.
