ABUJA, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Eleven people were killed and 16 wounded in a road accident in Nigeria on late Tuesday, according to the road safety police on Wednesday.
The victims died on the spot after their 27-seater bus had a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle in the neighborhood of Kontagora in Niger State of the country's central region late Tuesday, said Abdullahi Ibrahim, a commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
The 16 wounded victims were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, Ibrahim said.
The accident, according to the road safety official, was caused by wrong overtaking and high speed.
