TOKYO, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed mixed on Thursday as a weaker yen spurred buying, but concerns about U.S.-China trade tensions offset gains.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 48.27 points, or 0.22 percent, from Wednesday to close the day at 22,410.82.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 0.15 points, or 0.01 percent, lower at 1,698.22.
Oil and coal product, retailer and service issues led gainers, while rubber product, transportation equipment and marine transportation issues comprised those that declined the most by the close of play.
