KIEV, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine may postpone next year's presidential election, a Ukrainian parliament member said Thursday.
"I have information that a procedural request to the Constitutional Court is being prepared in order to postpone the date of the presidential election," Leonid Emets wrote on Facebook without giving details.
Earlier, local media citing experts reported that the presidential election, slated for March 31, 2019, may be postponed because the constitutional powers of current Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko expire in June 2019.
According to the Ukrainian Constitution, regular presidential elections are held every five years on the last Sunday of March.
Poroshenko was elected during a snap presidential election in May 2014 and sworn in on June 7, 2014.
The early election was called three months after former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych was ousted in February 2014.
