BiH weather agency warns of rainfall, high temperatures

SARAJEVO, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Federal Institute for Hydrometeorology (FHMZ) on Saturday issued a yellow alert for the major area of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on new rainfall and high temperatures.

FHMZ BiH issued a yellow warning for Saturday until midnight local time due to high temperatures, high UV index and intense rainfall.

According to the alert issued on the agency's website, thunderstorm followed by intense rainfall of over 8 liters per square meter in one hour is expected in northern part of BiH, and especially cities of Bihac and Prijedor, located some 250 km from the capital Sarajevo.

High temperatures of 34 degrees Celsius on Saturday afternoon will be recorded in southern part of the country.

In the capital Sarajevo, rainfall with thunderstorms is expected and a yellow alert will be active until 8 p.m. local time on Saturday.

The institute advised residents not to be exposed to direct sunlight and to only go outside in the early morning or late afternoon hours.
