BEIRUT, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- A Lebanese non-governmental organization on Sunday urged faster necessary maintenance for roads to minimize accidents in Lebanon, local news agency Al Markazia reported.

"We are witnessing a remarkable increase in deaths caused by car accidents because roads in Lebanon are in dire situation," said the Youth Association for Social Awareness (YASA).

Meanwhile, the traffic law is not being implemented properly, YASA noted, adding that dozens of serious injuries are taking place daily in Lebanon's traffic accidents.

Four people were killed and 25 others injured in 15 accidents in the past 24 hours, according to the Traffic Management Center of the Internal Security Forces.

Meanwhile, the Red Cross revealed that the number of car accidents in Lebanon during the first five months of 2018 reached 5,753, resulting in 38 deaths.

A source at the Lebanese International Road Safety Academy blamed the accidents on the absence of political will and lack of budget to regulate the sector.

"We also need a budget to be spent on roads, media campaigns and programs for giving driving lessons in addition to other needs and requirements," the source said on condition of anonymity.

YASA had previously called upon the government to inspect vehicles that enter Lebanon for the first time according to the traffic law.
