Vietnam's industrial production expands 11.2 pct in 8 months

HANOI, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's national index of industrial production advanced 11.2 percent on-year in the first eight months of this year, according to the country's General Statistics Office on Wednesday.

Main driver of the surge, the processing and manufacturing sector, went up 13.3 percent, contributing 10.2 percentage points to the overall growth.

Electricity production and distribution sector grew 10.4 percent, contributing 0.9 percentage points, and water supply and waste management grew 6.5 percent, contributing 0.1 percentage points.

Over the eight-month period, oil and petrol industry witnessed the largest output expansion of 50.7 percent, followed by raw steel and iron (up 37.6 percent), phone accessories (up 36.6 percent), and liquefied petroleum gas (up 24.9 percent).

Meanwhile, output of crude oil went down 10.6 percent, and that of urea fertilizer dropped 2.8 percent.

Central Ha Tinh province posted the highest industrial production growth of 121.4 percent in the first eight months this year, tailed by northern Hai Phong city (24.2 percent), northern Bac Ninh province (20.2 percent) and northern Vinh Phuc province (13.9 percent).

Vietnam's industrial production index in 2017 advanced 9.4 percent against 2016, said the office.
