Life insurers in Vietnam invest 9.3 bln USD in economy in H1

HANOI, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Life insurance firms in Vietnam poured over 215 trillion Vietnamese dong (more than 9.3 billion U.S. dollars) into its economy in the first half of this year, according to the Insurance Association of Vietnam on Monday.

Life insurers pumped nearly 251 trillion Vietnamese dong (10.9 billion U.S. dollars) into the economy in 2017, up 27 percent against 2016.

Insurers, including life and non-life ones, collected 58.6 trillion Vietnamese dong (over 2.5 billion U.S. dollars) in premium in the first half of this year, up nearly 24.4 percent year-on-year, according to the Insurance Supervisory Agency under Vietnam's Finance Ministry. Meanwhile, they paid a total of 16.3 trillion Vietnamese dong (nearly 709 million U.S. dollars) to insurance policy beneficiaries, up 22.4 percent.

Vietnam currently has 18 life insurance companies which serve a total of more than 7.5 million clients, said the association.
