MANILA, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte will visit Jordan next month to hold talks with Jordan's King Abdullah II, the Philippine foreign department announced on Wednesday.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said in a statement Duterte is visiting Jordan from September 5 to September 8 on Abdullah's invitation. It will be the first visit to be made by a Philippine president to Jordan.

"The President will hold talks with King Abdullah II on broadening cooperation in key areas to advance shared aspirations for greater peace, progress and prosperity," the statement added.

The DFA said Duterte is expected to discuss with Abdullah "a wide range of issues of mutual concern to the Philippines and Jordan."

Business leaders from both countries will likewise meet to explore ways of increasing two-way trade and investments, the DFA said.

The DFA said Duterte will also meet with members of the Filipino community in Jordan.

Before his Jordan visit, Duterte will first visit Israel from September 2 to September 5 to hold talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Duterte's official visit to Israel will be the first by a Philippine president since diplomatic ties were established between the two countries in 1957.
