JAKARTA, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian security authorities will dispatch at least 10,000 security personnel to secure the forthcoming Asian Paralympic Games in the country's capital later this year.

Jakarta metropolitan police Chief Inspector General Idham Aziz revealed that the security for the multi-sport event will involve police personnel and soldiers.

In addition to the total figure, scores of military personnel from the Jakarta military command will also back up the forces, the police chief said. "We have prepared personnel to secure the upcoming Asian Para Games. They will also be supported by military personnel in Jakarta," he added.

The police chief promised to provide security for the event scheduled to be held in the country's capital from Oct 6 - Oct 13, during which a total of 2,800 athletes and 1,800 officials from 41 countries and regions will take part in 18 events.

"We have already had experience in undertaking such a task during the recent Asian Games. Hopefully this event will run well. The police and military will collaborate to provide maximum security," Aziz added.
