WB to invest 5.5 mln USD for construction projects in six Macedonian municipalities

SKOPJE, Sept.5 (Xinhua) -- Six Macedonian municipalities received from the World Bank Municipal Services Improvement Project the amount of 290 million Macedonian Denar (5.5 million U.S. dollars) for the realization of construction projects, local media reported on Wednesday.

The agreements were signed by the mayors of the municipalities of Kisela Vosa, Kavadarci, Ilinden, Studenicani, Zelino and Centar Zupa with the Macedonian Minister of Finance Dragan Tevdovski and the World Bank country director Marco Mantovanelli.

The projects include the construction and reconstruction of local roads, storm water systems and reconstruction of elementary schools.

"The signing of these projects aim at providing better services to citizens and develop local economy," underlined Tevdovski.

Mantovanelli declared that this is a long-term program and these agreements are the first to be signed.

Over 70 projects in more than 40 municipalities in Macedonia have been realized so far under the framework of the Municipal Services Improvement Project implemented but the Finance ministry in Macedonia and funded by the World Bank and supported by European Union.
