NEW DELHI, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- Indian government has decided to exempt electric vehicles and automobiles run on alternative fuel from permit requirements.
The move is aimed at bringing down pollution in the country by boosting such vehicles.
The announcement was made by India's road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari during an event.
"I am happy to announce that we have decided that electric vehicles and all vehicles which operate on Ethanol, Methanol, Bio-diesel, CNG will not require a permit," Gadkari was quoted as saying during a function held by the society of Indian automobile manufacturers on Thursday.
India is struggling hard to bring down air pollution.
