SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Two trekkers were killed and one wounded after they fell into a crevice of a glacier in Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said Saturday.

The group of trekkers fell into a crevice of Kolahoi glacier near Dhanwet, about 116 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"On Friday a group of trekkers fell into a crevice on Kolahoi glacier, killing two of them on the spot, the third one was taken to hospital," a police official said.

Officials said teams of police, disaster relief force and local volunteers rushed to the spot to carry out rescue work.

The deceased trekkers have been identified as locals.

Reports said the local administration has requisitioned an Air Force helicopter and sought the army's help to bring out the dead and the injured from the crevice and airlift them from the spot.
