MANILA, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- A 6.3-magnitude earthquake shook Davao Oriental province in the southern Philippines on Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs said the quake, which struck at 3:16 p.m. local time, hit at a depth of 28 kilometer, about 14 km northeast of Manay, a town.

Phivolcs said the tremor, which was tectonic in origin, is not expected to cause damage. However, it said that aftershocks could rattle the province.
