ISLAMABAD, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani Army Chief Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa Monday confirmed death sentences to 13 hardcore terrorists for their involvement in heinous offences related to terrorism in the country, an army statement said.
The Inter-Services Public Relations, the mouthpiece of Pakistani army, said in a statement that seven convicts have also been awarded imprisonment by the chief of army staff.
The militants were involved in attacking armed forces and other law enforcement agencies of the country and remained engaged in destructing educational institutions and killing innocent civilians.
"On the whole, they were involved in killing of 202 persons including 151 civilians, 51 armed forces, frontier constabulary, police officials and injuring 249 others."
Arms and explosives were also recovered from possession of the militants.
These convicts admitted their offences before the magistrate and the trial court, the military said, adding that all the convicts were members of the proscribed organizations.
Before the army chief's approval, the convicts first faced trail in military courts, which were set up after the terrorist attack on an army school in December 2014 for speedy trial of terrorism suspects.
