MADRID, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- The World famous Prado Museum (Museo Nacional del Prado) on Tuesday confirmed a range of activities to celebrate the 200th anniversary of its opening in 1819.
The activities, which include programs called "On Tour of Spain" (De Gira por Espana), "The Prado in the Streets," (El Prado por los Calles) and "Today it's the Prado" (Hoy toca el Prado), aim to take the museum's patrimony to all of Spain and will be accompanied by music, dance, opera, as well as open door sessions at the museum and performances in and around the building itself.
Spanish Minister of Culture and Sport Jose Guirao said at the presentation of the events that the Prado's bicentenary was "an extraordinary opportunity to reflect over the past and present of the institution and to consider what we want the Prado to be."
The President of the Royal Patrimony of the Museum, Jose Pedro Perez-Llorca said the over 100 activities which are programed, "allow us to say that it is a bicentenary open to all of the people, to all of the arts and to all of Spain's Communities, as it had to be because we are speaking about Spain's primary cultural institution."
Meanwhile ,the Museum Director, Miguel Falomir, said the celebrations would begin on Nov. 19 of this year with a "great exhibition named 'Museo del Prado, 1819-2019; a place for memory."
He explained the exhibition would cover the Prado's entire history "from its foundation to it becoming one of the great public museums in the World."
In total the celebrations will have a budget of 12 million euros (13.9 million U.S. dollars) and will see the Prado host 17 temporary exhibitions.
Meanwhile works from the Prado's collection will be exhibited in 30 Spanish cities, 27 different books will be published over the year, while there will be 10 special conferences with national and international experts, along with educational and cultural workshops, films and other events.
