BANGKOK, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- A huge construction crane collapsed in central Bangkok's busy businesses district on Friday, injuring three people and pulling down several power poles.

Police said a female driver, 60, and two male bystanders were hurt when the crane fell down and toppled more than seven power poles Friday morning on Bangkok's Silom Road.

Several vehicles, including cars and motorcycles as well as a shop were damaged. Rescuers had to asked the electricity authority to cut off power before they could free the injured from her car.

Witness said a loud noise was heard when the crane used in the construction of a six-story apartment building collapsed. They said traffic on the road was usually busy but fortunately it was quiet when the accident happened.

The crane operator, a Myanmar laborer, fled the scene, reports said.

The fallen crane, power poles and trees have been removed. Investigation on the construction company is underway.
