BISHKEK, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Security services of Kyrgyzstan have detained a national who tried to leave for Syria and join terrorists there, the State Committee for National Security said Monday.
The 21-year-old detainee had been in the territory of one of the neighboring countries for the past several years and by the order of the leaders of international terrorist organizations intended to participate in military operations against the Syrian governmental forces, it said.
According to official data, 12 citizens have been detained in Kyrgyzstan this year for attempting to take part in the Syrian war for terrorists or recruiting compatriots for religious extremist organizations.
According to data of intelligence agencies, around 850 citizens of Kyrgyzstan have gone to Syria since the war started, about 150 of whom were killed.
