BUCHAREST, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Europe needs to breathe with two lungs, one in the east and the other in the west, and the emphasis must be put on cooperation, using a common language, European Commission (EC) President Jean-Claude Juncker said here on Tuesday at the Third Summit of "Three Seas Initiative".

"Europe needs to breathe with two lungs, one from the east and the other from the west, and if this does not happen, Europe will remain breathless and I feel that our Union is starting to run out of breath. So we must put more emphasis than ever before on cooperation, to use a common language for the East and the West," stressed the EC president.

Juncker urged Romanian President Klaus Iohannis to encourage "new ways of communication between the two lungs" of the continent.

"We support the 'Three Seas Initiative' and encourage you to open new ways of communication between the two lungs of the continent, but also between the North and South," said he said, stressing that "Only in this way will we be able to implement a dear project for all Europeans, no matter where they live, east, west, north or south. European connectivity is of paramount importance. We support all things, all the initiatives adopted here and all the ideas."

The European official stressed that the European Union allocates money on infrastructure development for "quicker and easier" travels, spends money for energy and natural gas, but also for other investment projects.

"We would like to make available all the financial means you need, all the financial possibilities the EU will have will be made available," Junker explained.

Iohannis said, for his part, that potential for developing interconnectivity should be fully exploited, focusing on transport, energy and the digital market.

The Romanian president hosts Tuesday in the Cotroceni Presidential Palace the Plenary Session of the Third Summit of the "Three Seas Initiative", attended by Juncker, along with heads of state, government or parliament of the platform's members.

The "Three Seas Initiative" is a flexible and informal platform launched in 2015 at the presidential level, bringing together 12 EU members located between the Adriatic Sea, the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea.The first two summits of the initiative took place in Dubrovnik, Croatia in 2016 and in Warsaw, Poland in 2017 respectively.
