DAR ES SALAAM, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian traders who import goods from abroad complained on Thursday over what they termed as lack of transparency in tax evaluations, delays resulting from multiple agencies doing same duties, and unpredictable port charges.

Silver Kiondo, chairman of the Tanzania Business Community, said lack of transparency in tax evaluation has caused most of the traders to incur unexpected expenses.

Kiondo also complained of lack of coordination between the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) and the Tanzania Food and Drug Authority (TFDA), a situation that resulted in unpredictable port charges.

The traders voiced their complaints in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam at a meeting chaired by Minister for Works, Transport and Communication Isack Kamwelwe.

Minister for Finance and Planning Philip Mpango and Minister for Trade, Industries and Investment Charles Mwijage also attended the meeting.

In his response, Kamwelwe promised to sort out problems raised by the traders to facilitate smooth operations of their businesses.

Mwijage, the trade minister, directed TBS and TFDA officials to resolve challenges raised by the traders.
