Supreme audit institutions in Asia adopts Hanoi Declaration

HANOI, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- The 14th Assembly of the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) concluded here on Saturday, adopting the Hanoi Declaration with focus on environmental auditing for sustainable development.

Under the declaration, all ASOSAI members, 46 supreme audit institutions in Asia, agreed to strengthen environmental auditing for sustainable development to realize targets in the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, boost sharing of knowledge and improve capacity of the members.

The declaration puts forth specific proposals on facilitating knowledge sharing and capacity improvement, realizing sustainable development goals and dealing with global environment challenges, and strengthening economic growth in harmony with sustainable development.

The four-day assembly's second plenary session on Saturday transferred the role of ASOSAI Secretary General for the 2018-2021 to China from South Korea, recognized Palestine's supreme audit institution as a new ASOSAI member, and designated ASOSAI training centers. Supreme audit institutions of China, India and Malaysia were recognized as ASOSAI training center because of their excellent training facilities and capabilities.

The session also discussed professionalization of the ASEANSAI (ASEAN Supreme Audit Institutions) which has adopted its strategic plan for the 2018-2021 period.

Thailand will host the 15th Assembly of ASOSAI in 2021.
