NEW DELHI, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- At least four people have been killed and seven others injured in a collision between a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) and a mini-bus in the western Indian state of Rajasthan Tuesday, police said.

The accident occurred in the state's Dausa district early Tuesday morning.

"The SUV and the mini-bus collided head-on after the driver of the smaller vehicle lost its control while overtaking another car at high speed. The impact of the collision was such that four people on the SUV died on the spot," a police official said.

The injured included passengers of both the vehicles, he said, adding that they have been admitted to the district hospital. "All of the injured are said to be stable," the official said.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, he added.

India has one of the highest numbers of road fatalities in the world. Road accidents occur mostly due to poor driving or badly maintained roads and vehicles.
