KIEV, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine has accumulated enough gas reserves for powering its heating facilities during the cold season, a senior energy official said here on Tuesday.

"Currently, we have about 16 billion cubic meters of gas in the storage facilities, which is enough to comfortably go through the winter," Yuriy Vitrenko, the chief commercial officer at Ukraine's state-run energy company Naftogaz, told reporters at a press conference.

In the previous heating season, which lasted from mid-October 2017 to mid-April 2018, Ukraine used more than 9 billion cubic meters of gas from its underground storage facilities.

Last year, the country consumed a total of 32.2 billion cubic meters of gas, of which 14.05 billion cubic meters were imported from abroad.
