PARIS, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- France is offering aid to Indonesia after a strong earthquake that triggered high tsunami waves rocked central Sulawesi province and left hundreds of victims, French President Emmanuel Macron said in a statement issued Sunday.

"France is alongside Indonesia in this trouble and stands ready to provide support in connection with Indonesian authorities," Macron said.

The president expressed solidarity with local authorities to cope with the tragic consequences of the earthquake and tsunami, and had sent condolences to the country's officials and people.

On Friday, a 7.5-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia's central province of Sulawesi and provoked a strong tsunami. The death toll of the disaster climbed to 832 victims. The figure could soar as large stricken areas remain difficult to access.

In a communique released on Saturday, the Quai d'Orsay said no French nationals were among the victims.

"The crisis and support center ... and our embassy in Indonesia follow in real time the evolution of the situation, in relation with the Indonesian authorities," it added.

According to media reports, three French nationals were reported missing.
