PARIS, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- French Interior Minister Gerard Collomb presented late Monday his resignation to French President Emmanuel Macron who refused, reported on Monday evening several French media including Franceinfo quoting the source of the Elysee.

The French interior minister told Le Figaro that the French president has decided to keep him in office, despite his proposal to leave, according to an exclusive information from the daily Le Figaro published Monday evening on its website.

"In the face of attacks on the minister (...) the president has renewed his confidence, and asked him to remain fully mobilized on his mission for the safety of the French," said a close adviser to Macron at Franceinfo.

Collomb announced on September 18 that he will leave the government in May 2019 to focus on the Lyon municipal elections in 2020.
