SEOUL, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's car export, production and local sales posted a double-digit fall last month on less business days, caused by the Chuseok holiday, the South Korean version of Thanksgiving Day, a government report showed Friday.

Automobile production declined 18.2 percent over the year to 291,971 units in September, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Car export shrank 18.4 percent to 183,964 units, while auto sales in the domestic market tumbled 17.3 percent to 127,753 vehicles.

The double-digit fall came as the Chuseok holiday reduced the number of working days by four days in the month.

Export for environment-friendly vehicles, such as electric and hybrid cars, plunged 22.3 percent to 13,770 units in the cited period.

Auto parts export dropped 18.2 percent to 1.76 billion U.S. dollars last month on less working days.

The daily average car production, which excludes the effect from less working days, rose 1.1 percent in September from a year earlier, while the daily average car export added 0.8 percent.
