WASHINGTON, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- Dina Powell, a former senior White House official who has been seen as the top candidate to replace outgoing U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, has withdrawn consideration, U.S. media reported on Thursday citing sources.
Powell, now a Goldman Sachs executive, has informed her company about her decision on Thursday, reported U.S. political media POLITICO citing a source from the firm.
She has also reportedly told U.S. President Donald Trump by phone that she planned to stay at the company instead of considering the job.
Powell served as Trump's deputy national security advisor before joining Goldman Sachs earlier this year.
Haley, who started serving as the U.S. envoy to the UN in January 2017, announced on Tuesday her plan to step down by the end of this year, at the presence of Trump, who later told the media that he had already had a five-person short list of candidates to replace Haley.
Powell was on the list, said Trump, who revealed on Wednesday that the White House is "looking at many people," including some who are currently working in the administration.
