TOKYO, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks edged lower Wednesday morning as earnings reports from Japanese firms coming in subpar dented investment sentiment along with stock markets in the United States and Europe losing ground.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 27.06 points, or 0.12 percent, from Tuesday to 21,983.72.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 6.63 points, or 0.40 percent, at 1,644.09.

Mining, oil and coal product, and glass and ceramics product-linked issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
