KIEV, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine expects increased cooperation with Belarus after the first forum of regions, which is underway in the Belarusian southeastern city of Gomel, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Gennady Zubko said on Friday.

"We expect that in 2-3 years, we will unite the regions of Ukraine and Belarus with strong business ties, contracts and mutually beneficial commitments," Zubko wrote on Twitter.

According to him, the first Forum of Regions of Ukraine and Belarus will help the two countries push forward their cooperation in trade, investment, agriculture, machine building and the energy sector.

Besides, Ukraine is willing to boost cultural ties and tourism cooperation with Belarus after the forum, Zubko said.

The two-day forum kicked off on Thursday with circa 100 companies from 17 Ukrainian regions participating in the forum.
