ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Unidentified gunmen killed four people in an attack on civilians foraging for wood in a wildlife park in southern Ethiopia, state-run Ethiopia News Agency (ENA) said on Friday.

Lema Polo, head of security, Gamo Gofa Security Command Post, Southern regional state, said the attack happened on Thursday afternoon, when the gunmen ambushed civilians collecting wood in Nech-Sar wildlife park.

The attack also left an unknown number of wildlife dead and property damaged, Polo said.

"Local and federal security forces have been deployed to the attack area to guard locals and wildlife, and security forces are currently conducting manhunt for the attackers," the ENA quoted Polo as saying.

Nech-Sar wildlife park, located on the border of Southern and Oromia regional states, has suffered repeated invasions from nearby communities looking for food and fuel wood.

The wildlife park has also been caught in crossfires during clashes between ethnic Oromo and other ethnicities fighting over agricultural land resources.
