Gabon's ruling party wins legislative elections

LIBREVILLE, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- The ruling Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG) and its allies have won the parliamentary elections by an absolute majority, according to official results published on Monday evening.

A summary of the results of the first and second rounds were announced by the president of the Gabonese Elections Center (CGE), Moses Bibalou Koumba.

According to the results, the ruling PDG led by President Ali Bongo Ondimba won a total of 98 deputies (73 in the first round and 25 in the second round) out of a total of 143 deputies in the National Assembly.

The ruling party won the absolute majority in the first round held on October 6 and confirmed its supremacy in the second round. Out of 143 deputies, the opposition got 17 seats.

Koumba said that the results are subject to the remedies that may be filed in the Constitutional Court.
