MOSCOW, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Russian state nuclear company Rosatom has opened a representative office in Japan, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The branch office will help bolster cooperation between Russia and Japan in nuclear medicine and collaboration in the field of fast neutron reactors, according to the statement.

"We are optimistic about joint research work in reducing radioactive waste and addressing the consequences of the Fukushima Daiichi NPP accident," Rosatom's First Deputy Director-General Kirill Komarov said at the opening ceremony.

Rosatom holds leading positions in uranium product exports to Japan, supplying nine of the country's ten energy companies, according to the company.
