9 killed, 40 injured in separate road accidents in eastern Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Nov.13 (Xinhua) -- At least nine people were killed and over 40 others injured in separate road accidents in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province, local media and police said on Tuesday.

According to police, at least four people were killed and 21 others injured when a speeding truck overturned in the Sunder area of Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab province.

Soon after the incident, concerned officials reached the spot of the accident and initiated rescue operation.

The bodies and injured people were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital and the General Hospital in Lahore, according to rescue officials.

In another accident, a passenger bus plunged off a bridge, which resulted in the loss of three lives. Moreover, 10 people were critically injured due to the horrific accident in Chakwal, a district in the province.

According to the area police, the bus plunged off the bridge after brake failure while passing through a sharp turn.

Separately, a deadly traffic accident has claimed the lives of two people, wounding 10 others in Rahim Yar Khan district of Punjab, according to local Urdu TV channel Abb Takk News.

Chief Minister of Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has expressed grief over the loss of precious lives in the accidents and directed the hospital administrations to provide the injured with best medical care.
