WASHINGTON, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- A hospital in the midwestern U.S. state of Ohio was on lockdown after a "Code Silver" alert was sent on Tuesday afternoon indicating that "a potential active shooter" with a firearm was inside the hospital, authorities said.

"Take immediate action to protect yourselves and others," local media quoted the alert sent to hospital staff.

"Police are on scene at Medina Hospital responding to a potential active shooter situation in the medical office building. Both the hospital and office building are on lockdown," the Cleveland Clinic tweeted, urging people not travel to the Medina campus.

"Police in Ohio say they are searching a hospital after receiving reports about a woman with a gun threatening people," the tweet added.

Medina police posted on Facebook that no shots had been fired.
