TEHRAN, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- Iranian defense minister said Tuesday that the U.S. sanctions have failed to slow down Iran's progress and the Islamic republic will manage to weather the pressures soon.
"Today, we rely on indigenous capabilities" and the country's current conditions are better in comparison with the situation before the re-imposition of the U.S. sanctions in May, Brig. Gen. Amir Hatami was quoted as saying by official IRNA news agency.
"We will overcome the conditions brought about by the sanctions faster and more easily," he said.
After U.S. President Donald Trump's withdrawal from Iran's nuclear deal in May, the U.S. has reimposed stringent sanctions on Iran, including embargoes on Iran's banking and oil sectors.
The United States has grown more isolated in the international arena after "it failed to align world countries with itself in its antagonism towards the Islamic republic," Hatami stressed.
