LUSAKA, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Zambian government on Tuesday called for accelerated efforts especially by developed nations to save the planet from the current effects of climate change.
Jean Kapata, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, said measures taken so far to tackle the devastating trends brought about due to greenhouse emissions have been inadequate since the signing of the Paris Agreement three years ago.
"Just look at the recent scientific evidence including that of the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change, it indicates that we need to take drastic transformation of our energy systems if the global community is to stand a chance to abate dangerous climate change levels," she said in remarks delivered at the ongoing United Nations organized Conference of the Parties on Climate Change in Poland, according to a release.
Zambia, she said, wanted a sense of urgency to be built into decisions to be taken at the conference, adding that Zambia was particularly interested to issues of financing of climate change programs.
She said the southern African's hope was that the conference should deliver on promises pledged during past climate change meetings if efforts to tackle climate change are to be fruitful.
She further said Zambia has established a policy and institutional framework aimed at coordinating climate change-related programs and projects.
