OSLO, Dec. 6 (Xinhua) -- A package with explosives was sent to a police station in Norway and was meant to kill people, public broadcaster NRK reported on Thursday.

Parts of the police station in Norway's south-eastern municipality Ski were temporarily closed on Wednesday morning when a suspicious package was discovered.

"It was a precise bomb, which was intended to harm people. We consider this to be an attack on the police, which had great potential for damage," police chief Steven Hasseldal said at the press conference.

"This is very serious and an attack on democracy and governance," he said.

Hakon Skulstad, acting police director, praised at the same time those who handled the package at the police station. "They behaved very professionally and correctly."

No message came with the package and so far no one has been arrested, NRK reported.

The criminal code for illegal dealings with explosives is 10 years in prison.

According to NRK, the bomb was not strong enough to ruin the entire police station, but it was dangerous enough for people to be seriously injured or killed.

The police station put in place additional security measures to protect employees.
